Interview

A Conversation with Hugo Chaluleu

President of the Brazilian Aerosol and Sanitary Household Products Association and the Latin American Aerosol Federation
Hugo Chaluleu

AEROSOL EUROPE: Dr. Chaluleu, dear Hugo, our last interview with you was already a few years ago. What is the situation on the Brazilian aerosol market at the moment?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: The current aerosol market in Brazil is around 1.5 billion units. As you can see in the figure attached, there is real growth. We expect our growth to meet consumer market demand. Local production is growing more and more. Fortunately, today Brazil has all the elements required to fulfill demand.

AEROSOL EUROPE: A few weeks ago, the 10th Latin American Aerosol Congress in Sao Paulo came to a close. What was your impression of this event?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: We are very pleased with the development of the Congress, especially the technical parts of the Congress, which have allowed constructive dialogue with all member countries of the Latin American Aerosol Federation.

AEROSOL EUROPE: Can you tell our readers how many exhibitors and visitors came to the show in Sao Paulo?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: The congress had 530 visitors, 132 exhibitors, and 24 exhibiting companies.

AEROSOL EUROPE: Which topics urgently need to be addressed within the Brazilian aerosol industry?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: Regardless of traditional consumption, we are focusing on the development of the medicinal sector, which started with Nanosal and a series of topical products. Lately, we are moving into vaccine development.

AEROSOL EUROPE: How high do you estimate the growth potential to be on the Brazilian aerosol market in the medium term?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: Please see the market information in this issue.

AEROSOL EUROPE: Can you provide us with aerosol production figures for the Brazilian market?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: Please see the market information in this issue.

AEROSOL EUROPE: What successes you are especially proud of during your presidency?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: I am fundamentally focused on the growth I mentioned; it embodies our ambition to be a prominent figure in world consumption.

AEROSOL EUROPE: How do you see the future of aerosol products in Latin America, in particular in Brazil?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: I have always believed that aerosol consumption will reflect the growth of Latin America.

AEROSOL EUROPE: Where do you see aerosol products in the near future?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: We regret the situation in Venezuela and the political discussions that are taking place publicly today, especially in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, and Venezuela, countries that are sure to return to sustainable development someday.

AEROSOL EUROPE: What goals have you set for yourself in the near future?

Dr. Hugo Chaluleu: I hope to help increase the share of health and medicinal products. Currently in the health sector, we have to highlight the importance of domestic insecticide to help defend against epidemics, many of them new ones such as chikungunya, zika, and dengue, and traditional ones such as yellow fever, malaria, etc..

AEROSOL EUROPE: Dr. Chaluleu, dear Hugo, we thank you for this conversation.
