The Swiss Nussbaum Group, a leading manufacturer of aluminium monobloc cans, has been awarded
DIN EN ISO 14021:2016 Type II environmental labelling certification for its two German production
sites.
At its plants in Rielasingen (Baden-Württemberg) and Frankenberg (Saxony), the packaging specialist
produces cans made from 100% post-consumer-recycled aluminium. The raw material utilized is made
exclusively from used aluminium beverage cans that have been returned by consumers to the
collection points for recycling. The collected material is then pressed, converted into slugs by a local
metal processor and processed into aerosol cans by Nussbaum using the classic impact extrusion
process. The resulting Nucan-PCR cans convince with their 96% lower CO2 emissions compared to
cans made from primary aluminium.
This process was audited by an independent accredited testing institution according to the criteria of
ISO14021. The transparency and traceability of the value chain from the used beverage can to the
finished Nucan-PCR can was carefully checked and confirmed with the award of the certificate. The
Nucan-PCR cans naturally meet Nussbaum's high quality standards and are tested according to the
identical requirements of the cans made of primary aluminium.
Nussbaum is the first company in the industry to have its "upcycling concept" certified according to
DIN EN ISO 14021. Florian J. Nussbaum, CEO and owner of the Nussbaum Group, is convinced of its
importance. "Comparing different definitions and recycled content is challenging for our customers.
DIN EN ISO 14021 regulates environmental labelling and declarations and thus creates clarity and
security" says Nussbaum.
For 60 years, customer’s high standards have been Nussbaum's passion. At two locations in Germany
and its headquarters in Switzerland, the company manufactures to the highest quality levels, focussing
on resource-saving production and sustainable development. Nussbaum's packaging items are used
in the personal care, pharmaceutical, food and technology sectors and are supplied to customers
worldwide.
